7. Platres

Located on the southern slope of the Troodos Mountains, Platres is a pleasant escape from the heat and crowds of the beaches. Trails run under pine tree canopies next to crystal clear streams. Just off of the Lemessos Highway, Platres is centered around two roads, Pano and Kato. There are hotels, restaurants and restaurants for the visitors as well as hiking trails and picnic grounds.

More from Platres . .
While the site for picnics and hikers during the summer months, most of the chateaus (above right) have been built to accomodate the skiers in the winter months. The summit of Mt. Hionistra (Olympus) is only 6 kms up the hill. The ski season typically runs from January through March; although it snowed on the top of Mt. Hionistra during our trip in May.
